How to be a egoist in positive way?

We often use the term “egoist” in a negative light, but being egoistic can actually play a crucial role in personal growth. There are positive aspects to being selfish, such as prioritizing our own needs, establishing healthy boundaries, and maintaining self-respect—all without disregarding the feelings of others. You might wonder how one can be egoistic without hurting others. Even God encourages self-care and the cultivation of inner strength. Embracing a positive perspective on ego can lead to a healthier relationship with ourselves and those around us.

“One who has control over the mind is tranquil in heat and cold, in pleasure and pain, and in honor and dishonor.”
Bhagavad Gita 6.7

Krishna encourages Arjuna to rise above fear, doubt, and self-pity, which can be viewed as obstacles to self-growth. In this way, Krishna emphasizes self-respect and inner strength, key components of positive egoism. He teaches that one must believe in themselves and their higher purpose. This topic is connected to my previous topic which was “how to be mentally strong in any situation“.

“He who sees all beings in the Self and the Self in all beings feels no hatred by virtue of that realization.”
Bhagavad Gita 6.29

Krishna’s teachings encourage balance. He advises Arjuna to pursue his duty and personal growth, but without neglecting the wellbeing of others. Positive egoism, similarly, is not about selfishness but about prioritizing personal growth while respecting and showing compassion towards others.

And here’s what Bible say’s specifically Philippians 2:3,

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”

Positive egoism in this sense is not about putting oneself above others but about having self-confidence without selfish ambition or arrogance.

CONCLUSION

Always strive to find positivity in your surroundings. At times, being selfish or having a bit of egoism can be essential for personal growth and well-being. The key is to stay positive and maintain a good self-image. For example, ignore the opinions of others unless they contribute to your personal development. Believe that you are the best at what you do, that you work harder than anyone else, and that no one can do the job better than you. This mindset, known as positive egoism, boosts confidence while keeping you focused on growth and success. Establishing boundaries, prioritizing self-care, and nurturing confidence can empower you to accomplish many goals in life.
